If you’ve been following our GradJobs Series, you’ll now know the entire interview process inside out, from sending your CV to receiving a job offer. But now you’ve got the job, what will your day-to-day life look like as a Recruitment Consultant? Team ESG broke it down…
8am: Arrive in the office. Yes, it’s early, but the cliché is true: the early bird catches the worm. Make your first coffee of the day and go through your inbox. Flag anything critical from clients which may have come in overnight and quickly flick through your ad response for any gems.
8:30: Morning briefing with the CEO. Catch up on the previous weeks activities, especially any client updates, and set objectives for the day.
9am: Check in with your candidates. Prioritise candidates that have client interviews - make sure that they’re on time, smartly dressed and well prepared for each interview. Then, call candidates who are coming in for interviews with ESG, and make sure you have an up-to-date copy of their CV.
10am: Action any urgent client emails and confirm with clients that all of your candidates are on track for their interviews during the day.
10:30am: Sift through ad response, and categorise each application according to seniority/level of experience, and available start date. Call the stellar applicants and get them booked in for interviews, ASAP.
11am: Use ESG’s candidate network to search for rising stars. This includes headhunting on LinkedIn, CV searching facilities, and chasing up candidate referrals.
12pm: Chase up any candidates which you weren’t able to get hold of earlier in the morning; if they were at work, chances are that they’re now on their lunch break. Call clients for interview feedback from the morning and relay that feedback to candidates.
12-2: ESG Consultants have an hour at lunch to use as they like; some choose to head to the gym, or walk into Shoreditch for lunch. We also have client lunches, candidate lunches and Top Biller lunch clubs at exclusive restaurants such as Gaucho.
2pm: Afternoons at ESG are varied and could include anything from meetings with clients to liaise about new openings, to writing and posting new job adverts. You could also be doing Business Development, identifying, securing and onboarding new clients.
3pm: Market out new candidates to clients and book in client interviews. We try to cherry-pick 2-4 clients for each candidate, usually across multiple sectors, to give them a taste of different areas of Recruitment, as well as different company cultures.
5pm: Call all candidates who have interviews the following day, and email each of them a full itinerary to ensure that they’re fully prepared.
6pm: Meet placed candidates for drinks to ensure that they are happy in their new role. This is something which sets ESG apart - we maintain long-lasting relationships with our candidates and genuinely care about their happiness. We take the time to place them in a role which we know is right for them, and we like to follow up to ensure that they are still happy with the choice they made, even 6 months down the line!
